Reading Room
Situated on the main floor of the Union Club, as befits this room’s name a selection of several dozen magazines and newspapers are available for Members and Guests who wish to enjoy a leisurely read ensconced in a comfortable leather chair or sofa. This room is distinguished by high ceilings and a pair of gas fireplaces for additional comfort, with a superb view of the Inner Harbour offered from 15-foot windows.
Centennial Ballroom
Everybody loves the Centennial Ballroom! Atmospheric and superbly appointed – including high vaulted ceilings, period light fixtures, two fireplaces, and Georgian windows overlooking the beautiful Inner Harbour – the Centennial Ballroom is the perfect combination of elegance and comfort. Service is as formal as the event calls for, and the tables are elegantly dressed with linen, silverware, and fine glassware.
McGregor Bar & Lounge
Named after Captain J. Herrick McGregor, the Union Club’s ninth President, the McGregor Bar & Lounge is a charming room boasting a rich Victorian atmosphere.
In addition to a wide variety of premium spirits and liqueurs, the McGregor Bar offers an impressive collection of over 140 different types of single malt scotch, making it one of the best selections of its kind in the country. Despite the premium quality of the offerings, the pricing is very competitive, which makes this bar a must-visit spot in Victoria.
The Past Presidents’ Library
Even quieter than the Reading Room, the Past Presidents’ Library is an elegant room that provides a tranquil and comfortable atmosphere for reading and relaxation, a welcome refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Billiard Room
The Billiard Room features three full-size billiards original to the building. Ornately designed with slate beds and re-felted every few years, these handsome tables are often in use for billiards, snooker and other cue sports.
The Renaissance Lounge
The Renaissance Lounge is a stylish and unique space featuring walls lined with a rotating art collection. A casual pub style menu is available alongside the McGregor menu, truly providing options for all. Our extensive selection of international spirits, beers and wine pair perfectly with our food offerings.
Begbie Lounge
Named after the Union Club’s first President, Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie, this bright and airy room has its own entrance off Humboldt Street. With contemporary artwork on the walls, and a full bar in the room, it is ideal for seminars, small lunches, and receptions. The spacious Begbie Lounge can accommodate 50 guests for dinner, 60 for seminars, and up to 75 for cocktail receptions.
The McKenzie Room & Lounge
The McKenzie Room, named after Judge Lloyd G. McKenzie who served as our thirty-third President from 1960-1962, offers a warm and comfortable ambiance on the ground level for private luncheons and dinners. It is the perfect venue for business functions, family dinners, birthday parties, and anniversaries, providing attentive service.
Classically Edwardian in its decor, the McKenzie Room exudes a relaxed formality with its chandeliers and period furniture. This versatile space is ideal for seminars and small dinners, accommodating up to 36 people at round tables, 28 people in a boardroom configuration, or up to 40 people theatre-style when an A/V presentation is required.
For larger groups, the adjoining McKenzie Lounge offers an additional 736 square feet of space, complete with its own wet bar, and can accommodate groups of up to 45 people.
Palm Court Lounge
This elegant and attractively appointed room can be used as an adjunct to the Centennial Ballroom for large events. Handsome and comfortable, it is also perfectly suited for private luncheons and dinners.
Executive Fitness Centre
One of the most popular features of the Union Club is the Executive Fitness Centre, featuring exercise equipment such as high-tech stationary and recumbent bikes; elliptical trainers, and a relaxing steam room. The locker rooms are comfortable with towel service, private showers, and lockers.
Meeting Rooms
Our three meeting rooms are ideal for small gatherings of up to a dozen. Conveniently located on the Union Club’s first floor they are well suited for interviews, board meetings, and planning sessions. Continental breakfasts and working lunch packages are available for these rooms.
