Established in 1879, the Union Club combines a spirit of timeless elegance and comfort with the most modern of amenities. With everything from a library, billiard room and dance floor to formal dining and several rooms appropriate for corporate and business events, the Club is invaluable for both the personal and professional needs of all its Members.

We encourage you to use the Club for both business and pleasure. The Union Club is a centre of activity in the city, and is perfectly located to help you host board meetings, special occasion dinners, client luncheons, and events for up to 300 people. The Club is also a great place to meet new friends: whether you are looking for agreeable bridge partners or networking for business, a spirit of camaraderie is a key benefit of belonging to this elite yet friendly private club.

Should you wish to expand your social network and make friends, there are numerous events and activities occurring regularly. There are many formal events throughout the year, including elegant dinner dances and our annual President’s Ball. We also encourage Members to create their own events, and to take advantage of our extensive banquet menus.
 

Reading Room

Thanks to 2,970 square feet of unencumbered floor space, the elegant and welcoming Reading Room will easily accommodate up to 200 guests for a stand-up reception, 120 for a catered dinner, or 100 for a dinner dance. Situated on the main floor of the Club, this room is distinguished by high ceilings and a pair of gas fireplaces for additional comfort. A superb view of the Inner Harbour is offered from 15-foot windows. And as befits this room’s name, a selection of several dozen magazines and newspapers are available for Members and Guests who wish to enjoy a leisurely read ensconced in a comfortable leather chair or sofa.
 

Centennial Ballroom

Everybody loves the Centennial Ballroom! Atmospheric and superbly appointed – including high vaulted ceilings, period light fixtures, two fireplaces, and Georgian windows overlooking the beautiful Inner Harbour – this dining room is the perfect combination of elegance and comfort. Service is formal but never stuffy, and the tables are elegantly dressed with linen, silverware, and fine glassware. Up to 180 guests can be accommodated for a sit-down dinner, or 150 for a dinner dance. An adjoining lounge complements this room.
 

McGregor Bar & Lounge

Anyone looking for a casual drink in a charming room rich with Victorian atmosphere will be delighted with the McGregor Bar & Lounge.

The McGregor Bar has many premium bottles of gin, tequila, rum, cognac, and various liqueurs on offer, but what's most impressive is a selection of more than 140 different types of single malt scotch – one of the best selections in the entire country. With drinks priced just a bit above cost, this bar offers what many consider to be Victoria’s finest collection of beverages.

The McGregor Lounge is a favourite spot for a relaxed luncheon, comfortable dinner or socializing under the expanse of stained glass skylights.
 

Billiard Room

Old-fashioned but not excessively masculine, our Billiard Room features three full-size tables built in 1911. Ornately designed, with slate beds and brand new felt, these handsome tables are often in use for English or Russian billiards as well as snooker.
 

Renaissance Lounge

The Renaissance Lounge is a stylish and unique space featuring walls lined with a rotating art collection. A casual pub style menu is available alongside the McGregor menu, truly providing options for all. Our extensive selection of international spirits, beers and wine pair perfectly with our food offerings.
 

The Past Presidents’ Library

Even quieter than the Reading Room, the Past Presidents' Library is an elegant room that provides a tranquil and comfortable atmosphere for reading and relaxation, a welcome refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The Library's collection consists of approximately 1,500 volumes that include both reference works and books that can be borrowed by members. Subjects covered include art, fiction, literature and biographies, prize-winning titles, affiliate club histories, and Canadian and military history,  reflecting members' interests and activities.
 

The McKenzie Room & Lounge

Located on ground level, the McKenzie Room provides a warm and comfortable ambience for all manner of private luncheons and dinners. Discreet and well serviced, it is ideal for business functions as well as family dinners, birthday parties, and anniversaries. The McKenzie Room is classically Edwardian in its relaxed formality, complete with chandeliers and period furniture. Ideal for seminars and small dinners, it can host up to 36 people at round tables, 28 people when the boardroom configuration is used, or 40 people “theatre style” when an A/V presentation is required. The adjoining McKenzie Lounge, at 736 square feet and with its own wet bar, can accommodate groups of up to 45 people.
 

Begbie Lounge

Named after the Club’s first President, Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie, this bright and airy room has its own entrance off Humboldt Street. With contemporary artwork on the walls, and a full bar in the room, it is ideal for seminars, small lunches, and receptions. The spacious Begbie Lounge can accommodate 50 guests for dinner, 60 for seminars, and up to 75 for cocktail receptions.
 

Palm Court 

This elegant and attractively appointed room can be used as an adjunct to the Centennial Ballroom for large events. Handsome and comfortable, it is also perfectly suited for private luncheons and dinners. 
 

Fitness Centre

One of the most popular features of the Club is the Executive Fitness Centre featuring a wide variety of modern exercise equipment such as high-tech stationary and recumbent bikes and elliptical trainers. A relaxing steam room is also provided. The locker rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed, with private shower rooms and luxuriously fluffy towels. The Centre is open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
 

Meeting Rooms

Our three meeting rooms are ideal for small gatherings of up to a dozen. Conveniently located on the Club’s first floor they are well suited for interviews, board meetings, and planning sessions. Continental breakfasts and working lunch packages are available for these rooms.
